We all know that in the 21st century SEO is the engine of Online Marketing. It doesn’t matter if your business name and brand is known worldwide or you are just a pizzeria in a small town, your business website will need some SEO in order to survive in Google’s rankings and bring you more business through organic search. When deciding your SEO strategy one of the first things you should ask yourself is whether you are doing Global/International SEO or Local SEO. Both types of SEO efforts have their benefits and challenges.
Global or International SEO
If your products, services and business are targeting a worldwide audience, and you sell and ship products worldwide then you should consider doing global SEO. It’s focused on global, large scale keywords.
One of the challenges of global SEO are that you will have to compete with other national companies, and it’s usually harder to rank for your desired keywords globally than locally. You need to make sure your business tactics, research and analysis are specific to that country’s preferences. One of the biggest challenges is that not all countries use Google as their main search engine. Some countries have their own search engines, for example China has Baidu, Russia has Yandex, South Korea has Naver. So you need your website to be optimized for all those search engines too.
Local SEO is good for local businesses that are located in and targeting a city or region. It could be a local attorney’s office, doctor’s office, restaurant, retail store, coffee shop, or any other business. The keywords for local SEO should be personalized by geography. For example if you are selling pizza in Seattle you want your website to be optimized for “Seattle pizza” or “the best pizza in Seattle”, in other words you want to be optimized for the keyword Seattle. So the content and the keywords need to be specific for that location.
So before you do any SEO on your website, have a specific plan and strategy. Know what kind of SEO you need: global or local, what location you are targeting, who your target audience is, what your keywords are. Those are the keys for effective online marketing with SEO.
