A client of Robb Digital, who is an Environmental Compliance Management Technology company based in Pasadena, California reached out to us after reading our SEO Emergency blog. Their rankings had started dropping in November 2015, and they could not figure out what the reason was. Our end goal for them was to find out the reason of the dramatic rankings drop, improve the organic rankings and increase the organic traffic to the website.

Their Challenge
Robb Digital was engaged because the client’s marketing team was baffled at the sudden drop in their traffic. One potential culprit we examined was that the site was not installed on the main domain of the website, but in a subfolder ( i.e. www.website.com/mainsite).
Another challenge we faced was the potential penalty for having low quality links to the site. Also, the site had a poor rating for its site speed. This is a huge ranking factor for Google and other engines and had to be addressed.
Our Winning Solution
The Robb Digital SEO team came up with an advanced SEO strategy for the client. We did a thorough technical SEO audit to find the hidden back-end issues that were causing the bad rankings. It turned out that the website had backlinks from China and Israel. Even though the company was aware of those links and some of them were even sponsored links, it looked suspicious in Google’s eyes. Many of those links had 6/8 MOZ spam score, which is a “red flag”. We disavowed those spammy and low-quality links. After cleaning up the link profile we did a fresh keyword research and rewrote the SEO tags and some of the content based on the research. We also started a link building process to help us to get the results faster.
Although the subfolder being the main site was an uncommon occurrence, we believe it did not affect the rankings after all.
Finally, we addressed the site speed issues by compressing image files in the home page slider which improved the desktop site speed from 19 to 75.
